Workshop on land resource inventory project held

CHANGLANG, Dec 2: Changlang district Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma has launched a workshop on the project “Land Resource Inventory of Arunachal Pradesh in large scale for Agricultural land use planning using Geo-spatial techniques” here on Monday. It was organized by the ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning (ICAR-NBSS&LUP), regional center, Jorhat in collaboration with department of Agriculture, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering the Deputy Commissioner said that though the districts in Arunachal abundantly blessed with natural resources and have plenty of available lands, the farmers have no proper land use plan due to lack of required data. Therefore, he said ‘Land resource inventory and soil reports are much needed for proper land use plan.’
He urged all the farmers to take part in the workshop to avail the benefits while assuring all logistic support from the district administration in making the programme successful.
Earlier, Dr Prasenjit Ray (ARS), Scientist, ICAR-NBSS & LUP, Regional Center, Jorhat informed that the project will be completed within four years during which the land resource inventory of entire Arunachal will be generated. He added that it will be done in phase-wise and during the first phase six easternmost districts will be covered where land use cover map, soil report, agriculture land use plan, etc will be generated in time bound manner.
Dr S Mukhopadhyay, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NBSS&LUP said that the basic entity of the project is to ascertain potential and best features of the soils as well as problems. AK Purkayastha, Advisor &State Consultant (NFSM), Govt of AP also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was attended by the Deputy Director of Agriculture of six districts namely, Longing, Tirap, Namsai, Changlang, Lohit and Anjaw, in which soil survey for resource inventory is being done in the first phase. DIPRO
