ITANAGAR, Jan 28: The Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Ltd has begun installing CCTV cameras in various locations across the capital complex, under the ambitious ‘Smart City’ plan.
Speaking to this daily during the installation of the third CCTV camera, near the Akashdeep junction here, on Tuesday, one of the project coordinators, Takhe Sira, informed that around 230 cameras have been proposed to be installed at various prime locations, covering Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Doimukh.
“While the control room for the CCTV cameras is coming up in the civil secretariat, live feed will also be shared with the capital police,” he added.
There have been demands for installation of such cameras in the capital for the last many years.
Many of the onlookers witnessing the installation of the cameras expressed satisfaction. They said the move is much-needed in view of rising criminal activities in the capital, most of them pertaining to theft of vehicles and road rage.
Although it is running behind schedule, the installation of these surveillance cameras across the capital complex is targeted to be completed by mid-March. (The reporter is an intern at The Arunachal Times.)
