Union opposes shifting of EE office

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The Galo Students’ Union (GSU) has opposed the recent order issued by the PWD commissioner for shifting the office of the department’s executive engineer (HQ), along with men and materials, from West Siang HQ Aalo to the Raga PWD division in Kamle district (vide Order No SPWD-013/2003-04, dated Itanagar, 23 January, 2020).
In a press release, the GSU said it is not against the creation of a PWD division and any other HoD office in Kamle but is totally against the shifting of the existing office from West Siang.
Alleging that the state government was meting out step-motherly treatment to West Siang district, the union urged the PWD commissioner to “reconsider the decision and cancel the same at the earliest possible.”
It said it would otherwise launch a democratic movement.
The GSU also urged Chief Minister Pema Khandu and union minister Kiren Rijiju to “give special importance to West Siang district as it has elected three BJP MLAs.”
It meanwhile requested the West Siang DC to “look into the issue of clash of date of the Yomgo River Festival (YRF) with the date of Class 9 and 11 board examinations.”
Claiming that organising the YRF “is wastage of public fund,” the union urged the government to “instead invest on education, health, road communication and other infrastructural developments.”
“It is expected that many ministers and MLAs will visit Aalo during YRF 2020 just for merrymaking. The GSU urges those visiting VVIPs and VIPs to visit Aalo purposefully, else abstain from visiting just for merrymaking,” it said.
The union said it would stage a peaceful protest during the festival if its demands are not met.
