1,426 farmers get soil health cards

PASIGHAT, Feb 18: The agriculture department has issued soil health cards to 1,426 farmers from five different circles of East Siang district.
The department had earlier collected 2,307 soil samples from different circles to test for the presence of plant micronutrients in the soil. The agriculture scientists also provided guidance to farmers regarding fertilizer management in their fields.
Highlighting the aim of the state government’s ‘Soil Health Mission’, Agriculture Development Officer, A Nonang, said, “The programme envisages proper documentation of soil health and preparation of soil map, besides distribution of soil health cards to farmers, so that they are guided for scientific nutrient management.”
He said soil test is necessary for the farmers to know about the fertility status of their crop fields and adopt farming activities with scientific management of plant nutrients.
