Workshop on PCPNDT Act conducted

ITANAGAR, Feb 18: A ‘capacity building-cum-sensitization workshop on the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, for DMOs and DEOs was held here on Tuesday.
It was aimed at training the officers on effective implementation of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act.
Addressing the participants, Family Welfare Deputy Director, Dr C Mongmaw, urged the DMOs to “adhere to the act and take all necessary steps to ensure registration of all ultrasound machine/clinic in the districts.”
He also urged them to ensure that prenatal diagnostic techniques are not misused.
PCPNDT state nodal officer, Dr P Dutta, informed that “it is mandatory to display the qualification of UGC machine handler, registration of UGC machine, and renewal of registration,” adding that it is a requisite to inform the district appropriate authority before purchasing a new UGC machine.
