Union laments poor lockdown plan, says rural areas facing food scarcity

PALIN, Mar 29: The All Kra Daadi District Students’ Union (AKDDSU) has expressed dismay at the poor planning of the lockdown by the government, saying it is causing the rural populace of the district “untold misery.”
While it welcomed the lockdown in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the union said non-motorable areas of the district, such as Tali, Pipsorang, Gangte and Taraklangdi, besides other interior areas, are facing acute shortage of rations and are deprived of other essential services, as well, because of the nationwide lockdown.
Requesting the district administration not to confine its activities only to Palin township but also help the villagers deprived of basic supplies, the union appealed to the administration and the state government to look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the AKDDSU has started an ‘anti-corona movement’ in the district in support of the 21-day lockdown. It appealed to the people, especially those of Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts, to avoid unnecessary inter-district travel.
Movement of private and public transport vehicles have been banned till 14 April. However, vehicles on essential services duties are free to move.
The union appealed to the people of the district to cooperate with the AKDDSU team and the district administration in the fight against Covid-19.
