RUKSIN, 16 Jun: The alleged kingpin of a cattle smuggling racket has been arrested by the Ruksin police from Lower Dibang Valley district.
Rahul Viswakarma alias Yaya (25) was arrested with the help of the Roing police on Tuesday night by tracking his mobile phone number location.
Viswakarma and his accomplices from Assam had made a failed attempt to smuggle out three cattle from Ngorlung village in the wee hours of 14 May. They had fled the spot after sensing police trouble and left behind a pickup van laden with cattle and a motorcycle.
As he had been evading arrest by changing his location frequently, Ruksin PS OC Inspector A Taying, under the supervision of the East Siang SP and the Ruksin SDPO, had been making all-out efforts to track his location through his mobile phone number.
Viswakarma is being interrogated by the police, and more arrests in this connection are likely.
Two of his accomplices, identified as Pranjal alias Baity Doley and Kishore @ Bongali Kumbang, were arrested by the police last month.
East Siang SP SK Jha thanked the Roing police for helping in apprehending the main accused in the cattle smuggling case.
“We will not stop until the network of cattle smuggling is busted,” the SP said.
