APSCPCR seeks action over minor’s rape

ITANAGAR, 17 Jun: Strongly condemning the alleged rape of a 10-year-old minor girl by her relative in Radum village near Kamporijo circle of Kamle district on 29 January, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) has asked the Kamle superintendent of police to immediately arrest the accused.

An FIR was registered at the Raga police station by the child’s father on 27 May, but the accused remains at large. A case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act has been filed at the police station.

Taking suo moto cognizance of the case, APSCPCR Chairperson Gumri Ringu contacted the Kamle SP regarding the arrest of the accused. The SP informed that the police are making every effort to arrest the accused at the earliest to ensure that he is punished under appropriate sections of the law.

Ringu also directed the officials of the Kamle district child protection unit to “assist with possible help to the victim, including follow-up of the case,” the commission informed in a release.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Kamle Child Welfare Committee informed that the child has been shifted to the Achukuru Child Care Institute in Lower Subansiri HQ Ziro for her safety, after conducting medical formalities.
