Drug peddlers arrested, contraband seized

AALO, 3 Apr: The police here in West Siang district arrested three drug peddlers from Bogdo area and seized 8.19 gms of suspected heroin from their possession on 1 April.

Those arrested have been identified as Moina Das alias Imo Basar (29), of Nyigam village in Leparada, Nyape Bagra (23), of Takpu village in West Siang, and Raju Dorjee (22), of Jonai in Assam.

The arrests were made by a police team comprising Aalo PS OC Inspector Yomken Riram, ASI M Doji and Constables W Phuksa and O Tali, under the supervision of the West Siang Additional SP, based on a tip-off.

Nine used syringes and two empty plastic containers were also seized from their possession.

During interrogation, Nyape Bagra revealed that the contraband substances had been hidden inside the handlebar and headlamps and underneath the rider’s seat of a motorcycle (AS-04T-8535).

The motorcycle had been brought by Nyape Bagra and Moina Das from a friend in Basar (Leparada) to go to Namsai to smuggle drugs.

“A plastic pouch kept inside a green coloured shop case containing 5.1 gms of suspected heroin was recovered from the former, while two Liv-52 containers containing 2.07 gms and 1.02 gm, respectively, were recovered from the latter,” the police said.

A case (No 15/22 u/s 27 (a)/21 (a) (b)/25, NDPS Act) has been registered at the police station here and further investigation is on. (DIPRO)
