ITANAGAR, 24 May: The apex body of the people of the Mon region, the Monpa Mimang Tshokpa (MMT), has formed a ‘think tank’ as “the knowledge arm of the MMT, so that the people of the region are better prepared for future challenges and develop a comprehensive view for a future-ready community.”

The ‘think tank/do tank’ is called Nyam-Shiblhen-Tsog.

MMT secretary-general Namgey Tsering informed that the role of the think tank would be to “carry out scientific and evidence-based analysis of the challenges before the region and policy prescription.”

“This may, inter alia, include issues related to climate, population, socioeconomic. The body may engage experts to replicate ‘best practices’ from across the world which is in consonance with the ethos of the community,” Tsering said.

“Apart from acting as an advocacy platform, the think tank will develop and nurture the future generations of Monyul by providing mentorship and scholarships to pursue professional careers, administrative jobs and degrees from top universities of the world,” Tsering informed.

“To develop a global network of Monpas, build relationships and help bring investments and expertise in the region, the organisation will provide a platform for the diaspora to engage with the region and vice versa,” he said.

The think tank will hold seminars, workshops and roundtable discussions, which will, inter alia, “include better understanding of other fellow brother tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and build bridges for peaceful and cordial relations,” Tsering informed.
