Drug peddlers nabbed, contraband seized

MAHADEVPUR, 9 Sep: A joint team of the Namsai police, the SB and the 186 Bn QAT CRPF arrested two persons, identified as Arup Baruah (31) and Rameshwar Gogoi (24), from here on Friday for carrying drugs.

The arrest was made during a surprise naka checking conducted by the team near the petrol pump here. During the checking, two persons on a bike tried to flee, but were restrained. The team searched the duo in the presence of Magistrate on Duty K Loya.

Two soap cases containing a yellowish substance, suspected to be heroin, weighing 10.20 grams and 10.10 grams each, along with Rs 30,000, suspected to be sales proceeds, were seized from their possession, the police said.

A case [u/s- 21 (b) NDPS Act, r/w Section 34 IPC] has been registered at the police station here against the duo.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the police arrested one Promod Sonowal (31) from Kumari Khampti village on Friday, and seized a yellowish substance, suspected to be heroin (0.45 gms), along with Rs 5,000, suspected to be sales proceeds, from him.

A case [u/s-21 (b) NDPS Act] has been registered at the police station.
